Transit advertising is a form of out-of-home (OOH) advertising that is placed on, or inside public transportation.

Transit media allows for unique creative marketing strategies with options that capture the attention of road users and pedestrians with bus exteriors or generate call-to-action given the long dwell times commuters spend in front of interior train advertising.

Interior transit advertising is an incredibly powerful engagement medium. Passengers spend up to 60 minutes in a captive environment and have time to engage with brands online via their mobile phone - 43% of commuters use their phones to shop at least four times a month – source OMA. Ads that use QR codes or display the advertiser’s website elicit the best response rates. Imagine you’re travelling on the train, and you notice an advertisement for a streaming service. You open the camera up on your phone, scan the QR code, and connect to play the show to help pass time.

Transit advertising can have a huge influence on commuters, especially those who take the train every day and therefore see your advertisement on each commute. This repetitive exposure builds brand awareness and increases brand recognition. A study cited by OMA found that 70% of UK train commuters made purchases after being influenced by transit advertisements.

Exterior transit advertising options on the other hand are an incredibly effective brand awareness building medium. They are in effect a mobile billboard; their movement grabs people’s attention and they reach more people than a stationery billboard can. With the use of bright colours, bold ad-copy and fun graphics eye-catching transit advertising is hard to miss. It's an organic and effective marketing channel that targets commuters whether they’re on their way to work, school, an event or the shops.

We here at Go Media have a diverse portfolio of advertising options on transit. We represent Metlink trains running on the commuter lines from Wellington Station to Kapiti, Hutt Valley, Johnsonville, and Melling. 900,000 train commuter trips are taken each month in Wellington – source Metlink. We also have exclusive rights on all Wellington buses, as well as buses in Whanganui, Palmerston North, Nelson, Timaru, and Dunedin.

If you’re looking to reach a wide and engaged audience, then look no further than transit advertising. With more people using public transport to get where they need to go, you can target a wide range of audiences and be confident in your campaign getting noticed.
