We here at Go Media are proud to support so many amazing New Zealand Charities and Organizations through our Good Impressions initiative. This month we are highlighting an organization that protects our environment and native wildlife here in Aotearoa, Forest & Bird.

Founded in 1923, Forest & Bird plays a crucial role in protecting Aotearoa’s environment and native species. Forest & Bird has helped establish conservation protection for a third of Aotearoa’s landmass through their advocacy and preservation work. This has put a stop to logging in native forests, preserved local flora and fauna, and helped protect species such as the kākāpō and kōkako. Not only do Forest & Bird protect our land, but they also do a lot of work in protecting our oceans and fresh waters. Including but not limited to, advocating for marine reserves, stronger fishing regulations, protection of our wetlands, and much more.

“We are just about to launch a hard-hitting campaign to demand the government stays true to their promise of no new mines on conservation land. We hope that the billboards will play a crucial role in raising public awareness and influencing politicians to support the Bill when it is read next month. Watch this space!”

Forest & Bird is committed to giving nature a voice, with nearly 50 branches and dedicated volunteers up and down the country Forest & Bird advocates for the protection of our environment and wildlife, with a ‘boots on the ground’ approach. This involves both advocating for legislative change and restoring nature through practical projects such as planting trees and restoring waterways.

Bird of the Year (BOTY) is one way Forest & Bird raises awareness of our native wildlife and the threats that they face. This year Forest & Bird is shining a light on Aotearoa’s ‘underbirds’, bringing attention to native bird species that need protection.

“Bird of the Year allows the New Zealand public to have some fun with advocacy, make the most of our national ability to gently poke fun at each other, and raise some crucial awareness of why birds (and their habitats!) matter along the way.”

We’re a company that loves to champion the underdog and are strong advocates for backing all things Aotearoa, so supporting Forest & Bird is a no-brainer for us here at Go Media. We have supported Forest & Bird in the past, but for the first time, we’re campaign managing a BOTY bird – the Shining Cuckoo/Pīpīwharauroa. We are thrilled to be a part of BOTY and are proud we can provide Forest & Bird with a platform to spread their important message and connect with New Zealanders.

“By being big, bold, and on-screen in a variety of locations throughout the country, we are gaining visibility outside that we haven’t had before. Hopefully, we are encouraging some of that curiosity and awe of nature.”
